When Lumak was born he wasn’t a pet, barely even an animal, at least in his owners eyes. He was just a nameless tool, his existence had only one purpose: to make his owner money. Especially by winning sled races, possibly breeding more Winners later on if he did good enough. He was taken from his mother when he was just old enough to be weaned, his training was rough, anything that would make them run and behave without wasting too much time, effort or resources. Fed just enough for his purpose, to run.
But it seemed like he never did good enough to even justify his existence in the end, no matter how hard he tried. So like any faulty tool, he was discarded.

He was lucky, or at least that’s what he was told. A family took him in, having been sold the dream of taking in a poor, worn out Race dog who just needed love and a nice home to live out his days. No mention about how he wasn’t used to Humans much, to behaving like a pet, or even living inside. Of course not… how could they ever have wanted him had they known how much work he would be? At least… he hopes that was the issue, and not… he.
He was constantly stressed, until he started to try and show his discomfort and fear a bit more clearly by growling. Instead of respecting his space as he had hoped they would, they dumped him at a shelter, claiming he was dangerous, and that they were too scared to keep him any longer.

This is where Lumak expected his story to end. There, in that prison of a kennel, until his last breath. Who’d want him? A dog with no training to be a pet, that had been labeled as aggressive? Well, turns out there was someone. Charlie.

Most dogs would probably have been overjoyed to be taken home from the shelter, but honestly, he wasn’t. Expecting this to be like either of his prior homes it would probably just be stressful until he would be discarded again. Surprisingly, he wasn’t, instead the new humans Charlie and their roommate Kelley seemed to actually respect his boundaries. He stayed wary of them, but soon they were able to all peacefully coexist at least.
Peaceful until…
Lumak could barely figure out what was going on before he had a puppy up in his face. Wait, a puppy? It seemed like Kelly had brought them home. At first he was far from happy about the new addition disturbing his new peace, but no matter how annoying that little bundle of fur got, he could never stay mad at him too long.
In some ways Apollo reminded him of a happier past, when he and his sibling had still been with their mother, mostly unbothered by the humans of his birthplace. happy, careless, and little nuances all on their own, but even more together. At least, until they had all been split up, way too young, and the harsh training had started.

Luckily, that wasn’t Apollos fate, and through that, Lumak was able to see the two humans of theirs in a new light as well. How kind and forgiving they could be, even if a puppy was gnawing on their legs.
In fact, they were way more forgiving than he was ever for similar shenanigans. Someone had to teach that tornado how to behave after all, right? Maybe even make sure he stayed out of trouble, of course totally just because of how annoying the chaos would be. In no way because he actually cared about the young dogs safety, why would he? It wasn’t like he actually liked the furball… at least that’s what he’d tell himself and the pup, if he ever cared to listen. Nonono, he was just keeping an eye on him to keep things organised.

And look after the boy he did, as the small devil grew into a somewhat decent dog. On good days, tolerable… probably just due to Lumaks good teachings. But of course he couldn’t leave Apollo to his own devices now, surely he would start his mischief again without anyone, or more specifically, Lumak, to guide and lecture him, possibly getting himself and others injured in the process. he’d never admit that the main reason was that he had grown fond of his little tornado.
